Breeding
Wake Field Equestrian's breeding programme focuses on breeding ponies and small hacks that are perfect for the whole family. Quiet, trainable temperaments is our number one priority. We use gypsy cob lines due to their fantastic nature and train-ability and cross them with more athletic breeds that are still level headed. This produces very easy going ponies and hacks that the whole family can enjoy, and compete in any discipline.
We have chosen all our broodmares based on excellent feet, very quiet, easy temperaments, and good confirmation. It has been a long process, but we have bred most of them to get these qualities. Most of our stock do not need shoes, grow thick coats in winter (so don't need covers unless you want them clean) and do not need a lot of grass or feed.
Our youngsters have all been started under saddle bare back in a halter without a problem and are now starting to move up the levels in show jumping, dressage, games, hunting and eventing. The ones not competing are perfectly safe pony club mounts teaching a wide range of riders. Our youngest combo is our 5yr old pony WF Queen of Hearts with her 8yr old rider... winning their 1st dressage test together!! It is normal, and almost expected now that our ponies will be great with kids at a young age.
